Have you gone fishing lately?
Jesus said, "Come, follow me and I will make you fishers of men." (NIV)
When you look at the wake of your life, do you see gospel fruit? Do you see lives transformed because of your witness? Do you see the evidence of people brought from darkness into light? The church has a problem. That problem is that we have not been developing fishers of men and women, boys and girls. Using phrases like "invest and invite" we (corporately) have neglected the training of believers on how to share their personal life story of transformation, how to share the data points of the gospel, or even how to meaningfully cultivate the soil to prepare people for the seeds of the gospel when they hear them.
For church planters this is so important. It is at the beginning of a church's life that the dna for Gospel witness can be encoded into the life of the church. It is because of this that we in our weeklong EFCA bootcamp invest a day in the evangelizing and gathering of the new church.
Today is a new day in Christianity. The growth of the church is shifting from the west to the south and East. Jesus is building His church. I simply want to follow him in simple obedience and be used by Him to help people find Jesus and receive Him as their Lord and Savior.
